One of the first things I unpack with a new client is how they approach the idea of asking people for money. Often, we end up talking about fear, discomfort, and honestly, shame in being in a position of “begging”. When you are practicing relationship-focused fundraising, these uncomfortable feels are good signs that you are approaching the ask in a transactional way. By reframing your approach as a fundraiser through the lens of relationship with funders, we can get past some of the weirdness we all hold about asking for money and get to the heart of what we are doing — having conversations with people we admire about work we both care about, and asking for money. Join me and Yen Azzaro from thepaperpusher.co for a visual conversation about getting over the weirdness of asking for money.
